I want to thank you for your input into the electrical installation in our new Trakmaster van.

The installation is excellent and I believe it was due to the advice you gave the auto electrician prior to starting the installation. All equipment you supplied works well and is well set up.

Thank you very much.

I have been dealing with Darren and Anette, from Retrolooms, for seven years, two caravans and two Oyster Satellite Dishes. At all times, they have provided outstanding service in a calm relaxed manner. I have been amazed how Darren can visualise “the problem” and resolve it accordingly , speaking on a mobile phone, whilst we are many kilometres away.

I have been singing their praises for many years, to caravaners contemplating installing a satellite dish, as their service is ongoing and available when needed.

I cannot recommend them enough.

Cinderella installed in a Railway Signalman’s Cottage

Cinderella installed in a Railway Signalman’s Cottage

Hi  Anette,

As you know we purchased the Cinderella (I love the name) back in July 2019.  I installed it almost immediately (which was pretty easy.)  The install was into an old (100+ yrs old) railway signalman’s cottage that I have converted into a free standing bathroom for a small cottage I renovated a couple of years earlier.  (see the photos).  The walls both inside and out are very old cedar boards, that are very soft and prone to splitting.  The only work involved in the install was cutting the hole through the wall for the flue – the flue is external.  As the wood splintered easily I cut carefully using the hole cutting device you lent me (thank you!).  It worked perfectly, but as you can see from the photo of the flue I came through the wall at a slight angle – so when I assembled the flue the join from the t-section was not perfectly aligned with the vertical flue.  But it has not been a problem.  The flue components are of a very high quality and the kit proved easy to attach to the outside wall, and it has all worked beautifully.

As to the operation of the toilet I could not be more pleased.  It is used by a young tenant who rents the cottage and she has been very diligent in following the regular maintenance procedures.  She empties the main tray about every 3 to 4 weeks, when she washes out the tray to prevent any build up of ash, and she also adds water to the tray and runs a ‘flush’ cycle to clean out the system at the same time – about once every 3 or 4 weeks.  She says it is easy to do and only takes a few minutes.

Recently I came to perform the regular maintenance of cleaning the flue and the catalytic converter.  Now, this was after about 6-700 uses I estimated by the depletion of paper liners.   I found the water I flushed through the catalytic converter was quite clean.  I had expected it to be dirty – it was not.  I flushed about 8 litres of hot water through the system and the water was clear by the third litre.  When I cleaned the flue, I dropped the provided (white) brush down the flue and proceeded to agitate it up and down, yet when I extracted it it was still, more or less, white; so there was almost no residue in the flue.  I had vacuumed and scrubbed the toilet end of the flue, and this did contain ash, as did the pipe leading back to the catalytic converter.  Both ends were easily cleaned by brushing and vacuuming.

The only difficulty I had was with balancing the toilet on its edge while pouring hot water down the funnel.  Its either a 2 person job, or the toilet needs to be positioned on a small bench.  I felt that putting all the weight of the toilet onto the front lip (the tray had been removed at this stage) may have damaged it.  The video makes light of this but I found it difficult on my own.

So, in summary, we are all very pleased with it; we find it easy to maintain and use and installing is very easy.

Prior to installing this toilet I was using another well known self composting system which I used for approx. 18 months.  I was not happy with this system at all:  it was poorly constructed (flimsy construction), required constant maintenance, regular emptying of waste into a deep hole, and the annual cleaning was both difficult extremely unpleasant (and I am not poo phobic!), and it smelt.  This Cinderella has almost no odour, and the odour that does present is not offensive – it has a slight charcoal odour after each combustion.

Attached are some photos which give you an idea of the install.  I am happy answer any other questions you or your customers may have.

Kind regards

Russell

‘Neat as a pin’ installation

Special thanks to Darren, Anette and staff for a quality, thorough ‘neat as a pin’ installation of an under bonnet Webasto hot water/heater with associated plumbing, diesel stove/exhaust and 12 volt lithium battery system.
The majority of it was in ‘unseen’ places within or under the vehicle, was creative, extremely well thought out and fitted!
As a partial self builder, a walk around the extensive workshop being shown possible installation materials, and being offered Darren’s build thoughts, years of experience and knowledge was priceless.
A ‘one stop shop’ for everything really.
100% satisfaction from start to finish!
best regards from Mark Scanlan

Hi Darren,

TRUK42 is going  well.  We are heading to Canberra.
I was able to watch TV for a few hours on the inverter, brilliant with the new batteries.
Shelf is great, really maximising storage.

The boat is working well, we had it out on the Mitchell river. Winch working perfectly together with brilliant storage for the motor.

Thanks Darren, Anette and Ping for all your good work.  It is making our trip even more enjoyable.

Blessings
