THE RETROLOOMS STORY
RETROLOOMS started in 1992 as D&A Auto-Electrical, a part time business started by Darren and Anette. It began in their garage with the wiring of racecars, caravans, boats and custom cars. The business continued part time until 2005 when Darren took a redundancy package from his ‘day job’ and with the ‘part-time’ business now built to a stage where the garage was in no way large enough due to the addition of wiring custom-built fleet vehicles and breakdown assistant vehicles, a new premises was sought. In 2006, the business moved into a factory on Cambro Road Clayton, and D&A Auto-Electrical now became RETROLOOMS.
Staying there for 3 years till a more permanent factory was located, on June 30th 2009, Retrolooms moved (right around the corner from Cambro Rd.) to its present location at 42 Renver Road Clayton and has now grown to accommodate CEO Marley (and his assistant Kobi), 3-4 permanent staff in the workshop, a sales rep by the name of Paul Reidy, Darren – ‘general dogs body’ and Anette looks after accounts and payroll. With the permanency of the Renver Road premises, the location specially consists of a large wide secured driveway beside the factory which can accommodate 1 to 3 of the largest sized motor homes, caravans or 5th wheelers available. It also allows customers to either park early in the morning or late in the evening alleviating the need for them to drive to (or from) the factory when traffic is heavy.
As the name indicates, Retrolooms manufacture and rebuild a large range of low volume wiring looms for anything from custom cars, work vehicle, emergency lighting & work lighting , stationary engines, caravans, campers and motor homes. In addition to the wiring looms, Retrolooms also fit out emergency vehicles, install Webasto diesel heaters, Victron products, solar and battery systems and ofcause Oyster Satelitte systems.
Retrolooms became the service agent for Oyster Satellite systems back in 2008 and for Webasto and Victron products in 2014. Sometime between 2014 and today Retrolooms also became the preferred repairer/installer for Redarc products.
The future direction for Retrolooms will be to provide a continued high level of service to all current and new RV customers, fleet and emergency fleet vehicle customers and commercial loom customers.
